MALOU DESIGNS

As a floral designer, I love to combine classic blooms with unusual plants and foliage gathered from gardens, hedgerows and woodlands to create a natural yet exotic feel.  Having spent much of my life living in the tropics, I enjoy working with a variety of flowers but now find myself captivated by the seasonal beauty of the North Yorkshire countryside and what it has to offer.

Wherever possible, I look to source quality blooms, grasses and greenery direct from local growers and supplement these as necessary with a wider range on offer from the local flower market.  Working in a more naturalistic and environmentally friendly way, I no longer use floral foam and seek alternative ways to create exciting and unusual arrangements as well as large scale installations.

Having previously worked in the film industry, I turned to floral design when starting a family over 18 years ago and gained my technical skills with a distinction in the City & Guilds National Certificate of Floristry, Level Two.  I have subsequently worked on numerous floral projects in Kenya including weddings in the most wild and remote locations.  I am now thrilled to bring all my experience to bear in offering a floristry service for weddings and special events from my home near the picturesque village of Hovingham.
